Do Bassmans (Bassmen?) really sound this awesome?

YES! An old mid-sixties Bassman was my second amp, and my first real amp. Had it on top of a 4 X 12" Univox cab, and it flat wailed! Had the Bon Scott era Angus tones nailed. (When I had it, Bon was still alive!)
That old head is still around, and I could buy it back, but for a price . . ..
Believe that Gary Richrath used them back in the early REO days.

The Marshall JTM45 was basically just a copy of the '59 Tweed Bassman only built with British parts, and pushing a closed back 4x12 instead of an open backed 4x10 pine cabinet. In fact even up until the mid 60s it was the Bassman circuit. It was the chnage from KT66 power tubes to EL34 that really gave the Plexi that big crunchy sound we came to know and love as the hard drivin rock n roll amp.

If I had money to burn, I would be buying up a few of these old Fender black faces and silver faces that keep popping up on Craig's List for $400-$600.
