Members HKSblade1
Was mainly used to reduce or eliminate hum on old 2 wire circuits. Just remove it and secure the replacement (3 wire) cord ground wire to the chassis. Older tube TV's and radios had the same caps off the ac line. Lightning and power surges would blow those caps and often prevented the other components (line transformer) from being damaged. Sometimes when the cap went, the foil within them shorted the ac circuit out and would blow a safety component (fuse or circuit breaker) in the equipment. Other times the foil that blew out of the cap made a real mess of the set. I never heard of anyone being shocked by a shorted "death cap" on an amp, but I certainly have heard stories and experienced ac leakage from other tv's, and old stereo tube equipment and juke boxes when we restored them.
