Members smrz
I'm getting set to work on my amp (a 1970 Pro Reverb) and I've never done this kind of work before. To drain the caps, I first unplugged the amp for a few days, with the power switch off and the standby switch on. Then, I connected pin 3 of one of the power tubes to the underside of the chassis for about 30 seconds using a small resistor. The resistor did not get warm, and there were no sights or sounds to report. Is it safe for me to open the "Dog House" now, or did I do it wrong? Members Jaymeister
Do you not have a multimeter? Only way to tell for certain if there are high voltages present or not. It's a necessary tool if you are poking around inside a potentially lethal electronic device. Just get a meter and a good sized resistor and discharge right across the caps. Takes a minute after you power off the amp, and then you don't have to wait for any amount of time.
