Members rydia is hot
Just took delivery of a Dr Z 6545, and it's not well. I'm going to call the doc tomorrow, but wanted to see what you guys make of this: Very quiet and pretty muddy on the KT45 side of things. This is supposed to be a Vox meets Hiwatt flavor, so it shouldn't be either. I can run the volume at halfway and talk over it. When running it at higher (relatively speaking) volume, I get a nasty buzz/rustling noise on some notes. The SRZ65 side sounds decent, but it's buzzing as well (hard to tell because it's gainier). I ran the master volume high and the gain low to hear it. Here's a clip of the buzz on the 45 side. It's not there at first, but I turn up the volume and it's audible. It's definitely not a mic overloading (there may be some of that, but the nastiest of it is present in person): http://2.recordertheapp.com/9cd99b47e6921c1931ba/ I'm away from the amp now, but I swapped the preamp tubes (except the ef86) around with no effect. Thanks!
Members ACLONERANGER
The ef86 has a metal grid in it,the rattle may be that. My Exes is rattling at higher volumes when the ef is engaged as well.replacing mine pretty soon. Not sure about the power drop issues tho..I'd go ask some of the brothers on the zforum. Members rydia is hot
Thanks for the response. I'm fairly sure it's not the ef86, because it's happening on the srz65 side, too, which (if I'm not mistaken) doesn't use the ef86. Also, the buzz only happens at higher volume. Any other thoughts? Members LIBBY!
From my experience, it's always the EF86. Them tubes are finicky! But yeah, the Z Talk forum is a great place for this stuff...
Members ACLONERANGER
I'm pretty sure Libby is right..at least one part of the ef is used all the time. On my Exes when you kick the overdose in it activates more of the ef..gets loud as {censored} too. But damn, talk about vox meets plexi ! : )
