Members grathan
I'd like to upgrade my wah. Can anyone recommend some specific resistor changes in my circuit? (I've never modded anything before and looking at this circuit I'm thinking resitor #1, #5 (is this a 1n9148 diode? there isn't any markings on it...), and #2 will give the biggest impact on tone?) The film looking caps have .Y 224 and .U:103 on them, not sure how to read this... The electrolytics are 4.7uf and #4 is 100uf not sure what #13 and #14 are? they say MPS .A18 E B C on them? The pins from the top I think are pos, neg, output, then the last one is another output. The ones in the middle are affected by the switch and pot. http://i368.photobucket.com/albums/oo121/Grathan/editedPicture002.jpghttp://i368.photobucket.com/albums/oo121/Grathan/editedPicture003.jpg
Members grathan
I guess I can just try switching out a few resistors.... Can anyone help me wire in a true bypass switch? I'm looking at this linkhttp://www.stewmac.com/FreeInfo/Electronics/Switches/i-1561.html and I'm not sure which wire I need off the input jack to go to lug #3 in the second diagram. thanks
Members mach5rider
I modded my rev. G a few months ago - I did the "vocal mod" I put in a 100k trimpot, so I could control it and I ended up liking it all the way up (100k) which is eequivalent to a vox wah supposedly - much more subtle than stock, I like it WAY better now. I also did the "bass boost mod", which I didn't like, made it muddy, so I swapped it back. I put in a toggle switch so I could switch from wah to volume wah, kinda neat, the volume wah only goes about half way silent though. I am planning on adding an LED also, that's one issue I have when using the crybaby, can't tell if it's on or not. EDIT: this may help you, if haven't already found it, outlines most of the stuff, with helpful pictures: http://www.stinkfoot.se/andreas/diy/mods/dunlop.htm
Members grathan
Thanks, I have pretty much every link that's googleable. The one I was gonna use, the greenwah/fuzz link disappeared since last night. I bought the "super duper wah upgrade kit" off ebay from that guy in NY. He doesn't really offer much help and it comes with no instructions. I'd be willing to pay pal some money to anyone who could help me out.
Members mach5rider
What kinda help are you looking for? Are you looking for circuit board pictures that are more specific to a rev C? This link should be your circuit. http://www.geocities.com/j4_student/crybaby.gif This site should help you read the resistors: http://wiki.xtronics.com/index.php/Resistor_Codes So your resistor #8 is 470K, #9 is 1k5 (or 1500 ohms), #10 is 68k, #1 is 33k, The #13, 14 are both transistors, you can see them in the diagram (2N3904). so for example: the vocal mod you'd swap resistor #1 (33k) to something like a 68k or 100k, it's personal preference. Members grathan
Thanks for the resistors help. I'm stuck getting the new switch put in. It's a 9 lug switch for true bypass which will replace the original 3 lug. Using the stewmac link I have wired the orginal wires (green, white, and blue) to lugs 2, 5, and 6 respectivley. Also added a jumper between 3 and 4. I'm not sure which wire from the input jack goes to the new switch because none of those wires orginally went to the old switch. Also the green wire doesn't seem to do anything? There is no trace where it hooks on the board.
Members mach5rider
Check out some of the pics here:http://www.stinkfoot.se/andreas/diy/mods/dunlop.htmthere are a couple of pics that may help you. The wiring diagram is the same as on stew mac page, except reversed left for right. I don't remember which color wires go where, but there is a color picture on the page that shows them clearly, and an LED. Maybe I should get some ambition and convert mine to TB with and LED, then i could take some pictures for you. That ambition thing is hard to come by nowadays though. Members Beerdog80
Thanks for the resistors help. I'm stuck getting the new switch put in. Also the green wire doesn't seem to do anything? There is no trace where it hooks on the board. the green wire is coming from the white harness. According to that diagram, the 2nd from top. You should be running it to lug 2. The input wire should be run to lug 3. That diagram is not real accurate, there was another posted here a few weeks ago that was better. Doing it that way might lead to 'bumps' when you turn it on or off. I'll try and find the other one later. ---------------- Now playing: Joe Bonamassa - Bridge to Better Days via FoxyTunes
