Members Deconstruction
I got my Mark III serviced by Mesa for the second time about 3 months ago... just recently i'm starting to notice an increase in noise (hissing) with higher gain settings, and this amp has always been really quiet at any setting. Bad pre-amp tubes, ya think? I use it fairly often, always at high/band volume. This amp has been quite the hassle in the last 5 years i've owned it. It has needed servicing from Mesa 2 times in the last couple years and many power tube changes, and it is making me hate tube amps... They're a bitch. I think i may need to break out my old trusty Randall, hmm...

Members bilbo71070
Change out V1 tube with V2 or V3. The first gain stage seems to be the one that goes on my Mark IV first. When it starts getting noisy, I swap with one of the later gain stages and it quiets down. When all the gain stages are used up I buy new tubes. Members Spaced Out Ace
Preamp tube, dirty pots, Effects loop dirty This should be on a list rundown of reasons why an amp randomly starts getting noisy, and chances it, they probably are. Also, check cables, pedals and guitar electronics. They are less likely, but still worth checking out to eliminate them as possibilities.
