Roland Fc200/Alesis Q20 - Help!!

Hi to you all, i have a roland fc200 / and a alesis q20 which i had echos from the past programed in. which are in the user 0-00 to 0-78 the fc200 bank are programed in fine BUT I CAN'T seem to get the built in volume/expression pedal to work. I am just using a 5 pin midi cable from alsesis q20 to the fc 200.
