Or at least they seemed to since you didnt replace strings very often when I was a kid. We replaced singles as they broke and a new set was a rare treat. I think some I like better that give the same vintage sound is GHS Laurence Juber LJ30 Lights about 5 bucks a pack. It's all a personal preference so just go buy a pack and try them.
