Why Are the Best Strings Always the Quietest?

I think strings like Pyramids and DR's sound much better than Martin and D'Addario. You don't get that grinding, metalllic sound but a much more woody sound.

The problem is they aren't as loud as Martin and D'Addario strings. Does my guitar just need to open up? It's about 4 months old.

Anyone else notice this?

It could be your playing style or your guitar. That doesn't mean there's anything wrong with either. I've never tried Pyramid stirngs and I'm not crazy about DR's but every player, every guitar, and even every set of ears is different.

I've always found that the strings that have that super bright, metallic sound when you first put them on tend to sound the best after they've mellowed a bit. Conversely, The ones that sound good as soon as you put them on go straight to {censored} pretty quickly.

You should try John Pearse strings. They cost a little more, but they're worth it.
