We can still find good, even great music without ANY involvement from the record companies." In the case of Led Zep and The Beatles, no, you wouldn't know about them. They had years to develop and prosper under major label involvement. That's why they got cult status. Without it, they would have the support to do a long carreer and build a fanbase that big, and become part of history. You have to realize the majority of the population ISN'T like you are ; They won't search for music, they need to be spoonfed. That's where the majority of the money is : casual listeners.
