Members DaveFry
Just discovered an old idea which I thought others here might like . Apparently in India it was common to attach the soundbox from a wind-up gramophone to quieter instruments such as the Esraj that are played ( bowed ) on only one string . If the needle is modified by making a fork in the end and sat over the playing string , it produces a louder , albeit tinnier , sound . It is demonstrated 12min42secs into the first video on this page ; http://www.chandrakantha.com/articles/indian_music/dilruba.html
Members dinosr.
That was a very cool. Imagine this on a guitar with an e-bow. It really makes it sound like a gramaphone. I definetly will keep an eye out for an old busted up grama at yard sales and what not.
