Played an Ibanez Montage today

I visited Make 'n Music today and saw two of these on the acoustic wall, so I couldn't resist. :D

And I gotta say...for being NAMM's Best in Show, I wasn't too impressed. I do like quirky guitars, and this one wasn't bad. It's not that the guitars weren't well made (they were) or didn't play well (they did)...I just didn't really get the point of 'em.

As a straight acoustic instrument, these sound about as good as any all-lam, meant to be plugged in acoustic -- not very good (IMO, of course).

Plugged in, the UST tone is OK, but nothing to write home about.

Same with the electric tones -- decent.

The effects seem kinda out of place to me -- if you're using this as an electric guitar, you've probably already got reverb on your amp and an overdrive channel to work with. And I'm not a big fan of using chorus.

That leaves the tuner, which is a nice touch.

I think you can pretty much get everything the Montage has in an electric with piezo saddles. The only thing you'll miss out on is the slightly louder, stand alone acoustic tone. :idk:
