I'm no vintage guitar expert, so I won't comment on it's value, but if you're looking at this as an investment, I'd recommend you do your homework (beyond this forum)...and quickly 'cause it may not be around long if it's a good deal. OTOH, you may want to check out those Gretchs before you make a decision too. 10K is a lot of money. If you're just looking for a good guitar, you can get a great, brand new, custom built one for a lot less than that. Likewise, there may be better ways to invest 10K as well...unless you find out that it really is worth much more. You asked for opinions, and you know what they say about opinions...everybody has one Still, if it is a real '62 and it is playable, it's worth a good bit...maybe as high as $5000 to the right buyer. But you would want to be DEAD SURE of what you are getting: serial number, neck and pot dates, etc.
Members ram
Well, I dont have the serial numbers, but I trust the guy and he saidhe bought it new in 62 and played the heck out of it until about4 years ago because he bought a PRS. He did throw out a figureof $1,500 he might want for it. The Gretsch guitars price was never discussed. I am basically looking for a nice vintage playerguitar and thought I could get that one cheap. Of course, this was before I asked what the value was on this forum. I didntknow these things were so expensive. The plate on back of theneck base had the numbers 61xxx cant remember the lastnumbers. Well, he was going to get back to me with a figure, soI will let you know what the final price is. Thanks,Ram

Well, I bet right about now he's doing the same thing you are; trying to figure out the real value of that guitar. If it's a real 61/62, you probably should've given him the $1,500 on the spot. I'm afraid he may come back now with quite a bit higher number, but I hope not, for your sake. Keep us posted, sounds like you may have found a gem. Members Kable
Give him the $1500 as soon as you can. Then run, hide, and change your name. He'll come looking for you after he realized he screwed up (that is, if it's the real deal).
Members XXX
1,500 for a 61 or 62 sound decent . I have been looking at a re fin 60 that the guy wants 8k for but I think its only worth 4 k at the most and even then I wouldnt do it unless it played like butter .
