Members FineLine
1) is the Z "Standard" a new or older series guitar? I do not see it in the Dean 2005 catalog or website, but see it here:- $650.CDNhttp://www.carlinoguitars.com/images/PB181815.JPG 2) how is the Z Standard different from the Z 79 series?standard - http://www.carlinoguitars.com/images/P2052097.JPG79 - http://www.deanguitars.com/79.php Z 79:- $650.CDN- not American made- built to the original specs of the original 1979 Deans which are now collectibles- uses the larger Series 2 headstockBody - MahoganyBridge/Tremolo - Tune-O-MaticFingerboard - RosewoodInlays - ABA DotMachine Heads - Nickel Grover tunersNeck Joint - Set NeckNeck Material - MahoganyNut Width - 1.68"Pickups - DeanScale - 24 3/4"Top - MapleBinding - Creme 3) why is the following Dean Time Capsule $1899.US/$2300.CDN, yet I was quoted $3889.CDN (without case) from two places here in town? Mind you I was quoted for a TC in general, not that specific guitar below. http://www.music123.com/Dean-Z-TIme-Capsule-i226661.music- American made- Flame Maple Top with Tiger Eye finish- Chrome hardwareBody - MahoganyBridge/Tremolo - TonePros bridgeCase Included - Dean HardshellFingerboard - EbonyFrets - 22Machine Heads - Grover tunersNeck Joint - Set NeckNeck Material - MahoganyNut Width - 1 11/16"Pickups - DiMarzio'sScale - 24 3/4 4) why are the 79 ($650.CDN), standard ($650.CDN), and Time Capsule ($3889.CDN) sooo nice looking & loaded, and Dean's American made Professional series ($2300.CDN) so no frills (no maple top, no binding, satin finish) by comparison?? Are the wood & parts *THAT* much better than the others to justify the price difference? I'm just surprised for the money there is no binding etc, and the finishes look plain (maybe it is the pics?). http://www.deanguitars.com/usa_professional_series.php- Made in the USA- All Mahogany body and neck- Rosewood Fingerboard- Abalone Fret Inlay- Original Dean V Profile Neck- Satin Nickel Hardware- Satin Lacquer Finish- Seymour Duncan pickups- Finishes: Natural, Rosewood, Walnut, Dark Cherry 5) is there *THAT* much difference between American made and non? Members Armitage
Both of the guitars pictured above are '79 series imports. Many small guitar companies, like Dean and B.C. Rich go through smaller distributors in Canada who add on a zillion dollars to the guitars before they hit the stores becuase they think they can. And stores know the guitars are rare here so they charge more too. It's criminal. The Professional Series, is made in the U.S. with the same grade of parts as a Time Capsule, but not dressed up. The Professional Series has a satin finish. The following USA Dean dealers are well respected. Remember you'll pay tax and a brokerage fee.www.carlinoguitars.comwww.wildwestguitars.comwww.basstreble.com
Members FineLine
...Thanks Armitage ...do you know if there is much of a difference in sound between say the TC and the Prof?? (prof has not maple top) I will look into the costs for your suggestion, will get back to you. BTW the less expensive guitars are on par regarding cost if you factor in exchange rate ...it is on the more expensive models where you see $1000 price discrepancies. Thanks again man.
