Members morder
I've taken the neck off one of my guitars, and I'm gonna leave it off for a couple weeks, to refinish the body. Should I give the truss rod some relief to compensate for the lack of string tension?
Members Scary_Man
take 1/4 relief off the neck when you have it disasembled from the body. i had problems where if you leave the neck tensed up for a very long time, it would have a harder time adjusting for relief when you decide to use it again. Members morder
why not just untighten it all the way? Can this hurt the neck?

Can this hurt the neck? you dont want to undo your rod by accident. you'll find yourself buying a new neck after that. apperantly, its not very easy to fasten it back on. i would go a 1/2 turn at the most. Members morder
I once read a setup guide that recomended that you'd actually remove the screw and put a drop of oil in there when you set up a new guitar, as some manufacturers neglect do this, to save money.. It can't be that difficult to get it back on..BTW I've had the truss rod all loose on one of my guitars, as it's neck was a bit too straight..This caused some vibration inside the neck, so I retightened it a bit.. The guitar still plays like a charm
