I absolutely LOVE Lou Reed's tone on the solo of Antony and the Johnsons' "Fistful of Love" - how does he get it? Whenever I've seen him play lately, it's been maple board tele's, but there's a crazy amount of sustain. Amp? Setting? Effects? And anyone trotting out the "tone is in the fingers" stock answer should be aware that his tone actually comes from his onstage T'ai Chi dancer. I remain your humble servant etc...
