Members Johnny Sunshine
i used to boil my strings to bring them back to life. It works pretty well, but it was way too much hassel, and you'd have to replace them eventually anyway. Now i just buy new strings, and wipe them down after I finish playing. Members K3Fallout
Probably that's the reason. I usually forget to wipe them down after I finish playing. I don't have any cleaning products so I wouldn't know what to use that's already at home

Members vmanmurph
There is a brand of guitar strings called Elixers that have a coating on them that could/should prevent rust,(but only on the wound strings). The difference is that they are 2 to 3 times the price for a set of guitar strings. Try musiciansfriend.com and see if they might work for you. Members cybersecretary
change your strings when they get dirty unless you can't afford it... when i was living on the street we used to take accoustic strings, boil them for a few minutes and upt them back on. you had to take them off with care and wind them up individually.... didn't really work that well for tone but actually it was better than the slime and grunge of 6 week old strings getting played everyday in the heat and sun... Members Zen
My dad told me to put WD40 on the strings. Would that work? Is it harmful for the neck?
Members DaleH
It stinks when it gets on your hands. I wouldn't spray it right on the neck.
