Members DarkCide
The dark cosmo finish on my 2005 Ibanez RG3120 is wearing off fast. I bought the guitar back in March 2006 and hasn't been played much. Never been gigged with and I always wipe the bridge after playing. The bridge finish has worn off more than my 10 year old Washburn which has gold hardware. Ibanez offers 1 year warranty but I don't think they will cover this. I paid big bucks for this guitar and the hardware should not be wearing off so darn fast. Especially since I'm taking very good care. Any suggestions? Will Ibanez honour their warranty ? The guitar in the pic is not mine. But it's the same model:
Members mfergel
yup. That cosmo black finish is cr@p. It starts to tarnish immediately. I have no idea why Ibanez can't either find a different process for achieving that effect or just discontinue it all together. I would much rather have a standard chrome finish vs. the cosmo if it meant one finish looking better longer.
Members DarkCide
Finish should not start wearing off in a month on a {censored}in $1500 Prestige guitar!!!

Members Pied
You should think of this as "free relicing."

Members DarkCide
I'll probably take it back to the store since it has warranty.
Members Bob Duice
Can you see the nickel yet? Some gold plating is truly amazing, you can put it away for later use and when you come back to it some kind of osmosis has taken place and the gold has almost vanished. Members DarkCide
I can see the nickel of the top three saddles and some on the fourth.
Members Bob Duice
I guess you can only hope the finish starts to fade too. What do they make black chrome out of,clearly it isnt chrome as chrome is a very hard element.
Members Pigsinzen
Mine is 6 almost 7 years old and looks line new still I think it has to do with the content of your sweat.

Members DarkCide
So I'm sweating acid!!
Members Pigsinzen
Well your sweat is more acidic yes. I bet you go through strings fast don't you? I would wipe the guitar off with each use. I do and my sweat is very non-acidic. There is nothing Ibanez can really do to fix this.

I forgot to mention that the volume knob finish is fading as well. I really barely use it. I don't go through strings that quick.
Members Bob Duice
So its an issue with the more recent production?
Members Pigsinzen
No as even the old ones do it to people with acidic sweat. And about the volume knob, you may not be using it much, but if you sweat it gets on it.
