New idea for old pedal: opinions?

Hi,

So I had this Behringer GDI21 (amp modeller/DI box, clone of Sansamp GT2) lying around. I got it when I was away from home during a training stint. Sounded ok through headphones, but no match for my Vox AD30 at home.

Anyway, I recently changed the pups in my 60th MIM Strat to lower output 57/62s. While they had all the chime/bell I want clean, I couldn't get it to push harder on the Plexi mode on the Vox. I dug the pedal up, put everything on clean and neutral (mic placement: classic, amp mode:brit), kept the drive low, but pushed the level to about 9 o'clock. And suddenly the Strat sounded like Hendrix on Manic Depression! Any higher on the drive or level, and it starts fizzing out. It got worse on my LP copy. Guess it doesn't take humbuckers well, although the Tweed setting on the pedal was ok.

Any comments? Is this something like a pseudo-clean boost? Thanks. Sorry for the long post.
