Members pimphat22
Hey All, My brother / rythm guitar player in my band has a MIM Fender HSS w/ floyd rose. The humbucker is just horrible and he wants / needs to upgrade. We're looking for something that can cover a wide range of musical styles being that we play covers. We're looking for something on the warm side on the cleans but it's got to have the balls to put out some hard rock / metal as well. I was thinking Duncan JB but i play LP type gits so i really have no clue what to suggest to him. Any thoughts??
Members Burningleaves
Something like the JB might do the trick. It is a hot pickup but has an alnico 5 magnet which (imo) makes it warmer and smoother then say a hot humbucker with a ceramic magnet.

Members Alecto
The JB works well, especially with SD Alnico II's in the neck and middle positions. The Custom is good if you find the JB too bright. I would also highly recommend the Rio Grande BBQ. I'm loving mine.
Moderators Ratae Corieltauvorum Posted February 8, 2008 Moderators Share Posted February 8, 2008 Pearly Gates every time, the JB sounds like a spikey hedgehog being run over by a speedway bike with spike tyres
Members Stratmaster
SD 59 is my favorite SD pickup. It has a full spectrum of sound and no spikes easily tamable by the tone controls and enough output to get the job done. JB has far to much high end spike and sounds ok for high register leads but not the greatest for rhythm and much to ice picky treble for clean playing IMO. good luck
