Wah with Clean??

When using wah, should I always use it with a slight overdrive?

Whenever I use it clean, especially at high volumes, I hardly have to tilt it and it starts sounding really harsh and trebley, so I have to be really careful. And then sometimes when it's tilted too far towards the bass it can't be heard. Why is this accenuated at high volumes?

Whenever I use it with a slight overdrive, there seems to be much less chance of the above happening, and it sounds nicer.

wah with clean is awesome.

a wah is a bandpass filter. it only accentuates the frequency you tell it to. you may need to use it differently when playing clean, and set the rest of your tone controls differently. the distortion is compressing the signal and limiting the dynamic range. so there's a chance you're smoothing out some highs, especially if your dirt is a tubescreamer.

You got to play the intro to "Shaft" with a clean wah wah. That's an awesome expression of the wah wah. Check the amp settings kill some of that reverb- clean wah wah is good

Ah, i'll try laying off the reverb a bit and see if it helps.
