Members googoomuck
Yeah, the SE One seems like a decent bet from the reviews I've read here. I just wish I could be a bit more excited about them. I dunno.
Members Machine Gun
Reverend Warhawk 390? http://www.reverendguitars.com/reverend/guitars/set_neck_series/warhawk_2_390.html or Other than that, I'd suggest saving a bit more and doing a build of some sort. Tele body with P90's? I know attrox can help with that for sure. Or maybe a 3 P90 strat?
Members Cavadge
Was in the same situation as yourself. I shopped for awhile, searched reviews, finally settled on a Hamer Sunburst Archtop P90. Sunburst is a silly name, given that it's a goldtop...Here's one available on ebay UK - http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Hamer-Sunburst-Archtop-P90_W0QQitemZ260235862453QQcmdZViewItem?_trksid=p3286.m20.l1116Very reasonably priced, considering the quality of the instrument. Yes, these are made in China, but I will say it is by far the nicest MIC guitar I've ever seen. Mahogany body, set mahogany neck, and a pair of Hamer P90s.I scored mine on ebay used, barely one month old, for just over $200. I wasn't expecting that much, but was very impressed by the build quality. Absolutely no flaws anywhere. Beautiful finish, frets very nicely done. Plays like a dream. Excellent upper fret access.Sweet chimey cleans, and I love that P90 growl when you crank the gain. On a side note, being a tweakhead, I considered a pickup swap. Instead I decided to experiment with direct mounting the pickups. The pickups are screwed to the body with a piece of foam in between to set the height. I tore out the foam and replaced it with a strip of hardwood. What an amazing difference. With the pickups now resonating with the body, the string displacement is effectively increased. Truly sweet sounding now, much stronger bottom, more apparent mids and highs as well. Harmonics all over the place. No pickup swap needed now... this guitar is a keeper. Here's a pic of the spacers I made up. The groove in the center is to clear the screws sticking out of the bottom of the pickups.Steve
Members googoomuck
The Reverend option is a great one. Definitely a brand I could get excited about. The Hamer looks lovely, I have to say, thanks for the photo and the info. I take it that it's a set neck, as with the Two Reverends. I'm still a little wary of glued in necks (for no specific reason other that I am) so might go for a bolt-on option. Something like this: The build option is ambitious for me, but the idea of a 3 P90 Strat does have a certain appeal. That's got me thinking. Members iansmitchell
Epiphone LP junior from before 1999(check ebay)OREpiphone 1957 reissue junior(check ebay)OREpiphone casino I'd suggest a set of GFS P-90s(VERY suggested for the juniors, due to the P-100.) and new wiring (500K pots, .022uf caps) to make it sound and preform more perfectly.
