First off let me say that you may not get many responses because it appears that KY1s are among Rondo's least popular models. But I love mine! I am very happy! I like that they are different. The finishes are good, and I like the weight, mine are between 8.0 and 8.8 lbs. They are economy guitars and the quality varies. The gold HW on my CUS22 as tarnished, and the post slots for the wraparound bridge allowed it to tilt a little. I replaced just about everything on it. but I love it! To recap, the tone quality I strive for is more of a hard rock - coming short of what I would call true metal. If I understand you right the cus and the stnd KY1's have different PUP's. The ones on the STND seem to be hotter but not as clean as on the CUS. For more chrunchy sound - pushing the PUP to get a dirtier sound, it appears the STND KY1 would be the better choice.
