  1. I sold everything off at one point. I had financial problems and had a band (that I put everything into) disintergrate. I had lost my love of guitar, or so I thought. It took me a year before I could afford to have a guitar again. It was the worst year of my life. I will never sell everything off again. I will at least keep a small practice amp and one electric.
  2. The band that I'm starting now is going to do quieter shows in smaller venues with the drummer using an electronic kit and me using an iso cab. We are going to use acoustic drums and normal cabs for bigger shows. I'm all for it. I use a big amp normally, but I'm not cranking it. I use preamp gain and like my power section to be fairly clean. so my volume isn't unmanagable anyway. My amp is always pointing in from the side of the stage and raised to about stomach height . I've never understood having something blowing at your knees from behind. That means it is pointed at the people's heads that are sitting on the other side of the dance flooor.
  3. If you like the feel of a Floyd, you should have a Floyd installed. Kahler trems are good, but have a looser feel than a Floyd. Although, you can get heavier springs for the Kahler that stiffen the feel up some. The big question for me (if I were doing the mod) would be locking nut, no locking nut, or behind the nut lock.
  4. What do you mean? Do you know how much I want a shred guitar with these tonal qualities? I have a Strat loaded with H-S-H Dimarzio pickup combination with a Mega-switch, I can get glassy, twangy, and ultra-smooth high gain sounds out of it. Here is the pickup combination diagram from the Stewmac: This may be a solution for you.
  5. Most of the "shredders" were dirt poor and those guitars were affordable at the time. I miss the 80's. I didn't have any responsibilities, I could afford expensive clothes and I had 20 guitars. My playing out money went into more and more gear. Good times.
  6. Some of it was obvious hero emulation. I mainly played a Les Paul up until about 1986. My favorite band: Thin Lizzy. As instrumental rock music became more prevalent, I became aware that the current crop of Van Halen inspired super-strats players were getting tones out of their H-S-H and H-S-S guitars that I couldn't quite achieve with my Les Paul style guitars. They could get in the ballpark of my tone though, so I started to emulate the guitars that they were playing. I grew to prefer a tricked out Strat style guitar with big frets, flatter fingerboards, hot H-S-H pickup configuration, and a Floyd Rose. I did have an amazing Heritage Les Paul style guitar with a Kahler Spyder that I played quite often during that time. This is THE GUITAR that I could kill myself for trading.
  7. You made me curious as I don't remember these. From what I've read, they sound very good and have a ton of output and definition. I say use them. Oh and to Randy G: Every little thing the reflex does Leaves you answered with a question mark
