  • Boutique Guitars: Mostly Strats and Teles?

Why is it that most of the boutique luthiers who make electric guitars (not acoustics or jazzboxes) seem to emulate/ borrow/even copy from Strats and Teles much more often than from other models?

The main reason is that the Strat-type guitar is the most popular kind by leaps and bounds.
Another reason is that they are "modular" and easy to customize: you can make a guitar with any set of options by simply assembling the necessary parts, as opposed to having to build them one at a time per the buyer's specs.

Let's see how many I can name off the top of my head:

    Anderson
    Suhr
    Lentz
    Melancon
    Grosh
    Tyler
    Lull

    Mmmm... that's about it.
