  • Goldtop Explorers?

I was piddlin' around with Photoshop and kinda came up with what I think would be a beautiful guitar (based off the Sammy Hagar Explorer). So I wondered, did Gibson make any goldtop Explorers other than the very limited Centennial Explorer?

Here's my quick mockup, for example.
    My guitfiddles:

    Taylor 214ce
    Gibson Explorer Melody Maker
    Gitane D-500
    Epiphone Les Paul Standard

Looks hot. How about gold or cream fret markers and a black pickguard to match the headstock?

Kinda hard to do a black one, but this is a quick shop of it.

It's not too far from the natural korina look, really. I could dig it.

I'd been thinking lately it would be cool to have an Explorer with a Floyd.

I have to say, I don't think I've ever seen a gold top explorer before.
