Members clapton_mnt
Hello, this is my first topic in the forum! ...and my question deals with the Epiphone Les Paul Standart Ebony vs. the Epiphone Les Paul Standard Plus Top PRO. From what I've read, the differences are principally cosmetic (flamed veneer on top) and coil taping on PRO series vs. ebony finish and may be cheaper pups in Standard EB model. But is there a real difference in sound or build/wood quality? What is the better deal - to buy and upgrade the cheap Ebony LP Std with some good pickups or buy Plus Top Pro? PS: My question is specific about these two models!
Members kayd_mon
If you're going to upgrade pickups anyway, and your heart isn't set on a flametop, why not get the cheaper one and have fun modding it? The quality will be about the same, wood-wise.

Members PrawnHeed
I could not possibly reward the person who came up with the name "standard plustop pro" by buying it. So get the other one, whatever it is! And welcome to the forum.
Members Pine Apple Slim
Id want to see if the "pro" pickups lived up to there rep. If they did and if I prefered the flame look, Id get that one and be done with it.Myself, I'd rather have the plain black one, even tho the hardware might not be quite as good and I might have to replace the pickups.
