Members kickingtone
I've never felt the appeal of rap. I tend to see it more as the rallying cry of the downtrodden, rather than music, lol. Isn't it the political message and the macho energy that attracts people? This is one of the reasons I am not keen on rock.
Members ericvomme
I do listen to rap, but the reason I like it is because of the percussive way of using the human voice. in the jazz era, the band members used to try to imitate each other's sound. That's how guitar muting the strings came about. It was to mimick the rhythm of the drums. Also, scat singing evolved because singers wanted to do solos instead of just singing the melody. Drummers tried out more melodic ways of soloing and so on and so forth. Rap is just using the voice as if it were a percussion instrument. The beatbox evolved from there. But you can here the jazz musicians try it out in their recordings. In my opinion, it's the earliest forms of rap. Anyway, it's just a different approach to using the voice and I do indulge in it once in a while.
