[i would quibble with one statement, though: "Remember that distortion is any unwanted variation in a signal (compared to the original signal)". From an engineering perspective any variation would be distortion, whether you enjoy its effect or not. Something to bear in mind when talking about audio gear which has a characteristic "sound". This is just something that's been bugging me for a while, not something specific to this article.]
