Members soundministries
I've been seeing a few manufacturers stating that their boxes can be dual purpose either as a floor monitor of a FOH speaker. Does the shape difference between monitors and tops affect the sound quality coming out or can they really pull double duty without losing any of the quality? Thank you
CMS Author Craig Vecchione Posted December 2, 2003 CMS Author Share Posted December 2, 2003 If the volume is equal, the sound will be close between two differently shaped boxes. But most floor monitors will have smaller boxes than their 'equivalent' mains brethren. This will usually result in somewhat different low end response. Members abzurd
There are more and more hybrid boxes all the time. Accomplishes a few things 1) Flexibility - You can use as main or monitor 2) Profitability - The manufacturer can reduce the number of different models offered, but still sell as many total units as if 2 models were offeres. Also, distributors don't have to have as many different boxes sitting in warehouses. As the previous post explained, the true hybrid box that does both well, will probably make for a larger monitor than if you had a strict vocal wedge. The hybrid will probably yeild better bass response than a stand alone wedge.

So over some good subs everything should still sound pretty good and clean provieded that they are quality speakers, would this be a correct assumption? Thanks again for all of your help:D

Members bassknave
AAMOF, the irregular shape of the top cab will reduce standing waves in the box--a plus in itself!
