hey,

we're a wacky sort of creative metal band. Im almost 18, our drummer is 18, and our singer/guitar player is 16 - hes very good though.

Im just curious is it too unprofessional professional to seek gigs at this age? We are all very devoted, probibly wanting to gig a few times a week in the summer.

No.

Most important thing is not to suck.

ok, but will bars and small clubs let minors play? alot of the small places here are 18/21+

Yes. If you don't suck, or more importantly, if you're good, bars will go out of their way to have you play.

I played shows at clubs at 15.

Depends on the venue. When interacting with the booking person, I wouldn't offer up your ages unless asked directly.

There are variations on the laws from place to place. I think the spirit of the laws, however, is to keep you separated from the alcohol.

You may not be allowed at the bar itself.

You are not too young at all. I was in a band as the singer/guitarist when I was 15 the drummer was 14 and the bassist was 16 (old enough to drive.) We toured actively after school and on weekends. I am now 17 and touring VERY actively as a solo artist and planning on going on tour that will go from Michigan to Florida and into Canada. You are NEVER to young to make a name for yourself.

Are you able to record a basic demo? That might be your best bet. Then you can put together a little presskit (demo, bio, etc) and you can drop off at bars. If there's a guy at the door checking ID's just tell him you're there to drop that off - that should avoid the age issue at that point. Then only say your age if the ask. With any luck they will like your demo so at that point might be more willing to overlook your age.
