unitll a week ago i thought that song by the calling was actually Creed. i can't stand either one, but thats me. most of those grunge bands you listed aren't even together anymore.

genre's always get overblown and thats why they die off or at least slow down. you know how many bands i've heard in the last 5 years that may as well be limp bizkit? uhhhh....well alot. :D

the best music to listen to is music not many people know of. i don't know about you but when i go to a beach or somewhere and see a group of 12 y/o girls singing the latest song by "whoever" in a circle i wanna puke. and i mean projectile puke.

EngineGuitarist - I haven't even gotten to U.K. bands yet that have made a career ripping off the originals bands of the past but, one that comes to mind most often is Oasis. They've made a career living off of the Beatles.

Radiohead - They have literally created a cottage industry in England. Hence their reasoning for making, Kid A and Amnesiac. You have to admit - those would be difficult to duplicate.

Travis, Coldplay & Doves have definitely lifted this formula from their contemporaries. Don't get me wrong - I find those bands all to be incredibly talented - each offering their own slight variation of their style. But they have a common thread in their songs. Usually acoustic guitar and a rhodes keyboard with trippy sounds.

We actually have an underground scene here in the states that follow that formula as well. There are several bands who follow it: Remy Zero, Flick & Ester Drang just to name a few....

The thing is - the English sound doesn't always catch on here. I love the music in the U.K. but, alot of people find it slow and boring. Conceptually, I find it way more interesting than alot of the crap we're subjected to here in the states but, that's another conversation.

Who's that Robbie guy...what's his name Robbie??? Can't remember...anyway - he wishes he was George Michael. That's a laugh to me.

I could on and on.....

England seems to be caught up in this 'young white boy sings easy listening in the style of.....' nonsense.

I heard this guy on the radio yesterday who is supposed to be the next boy wonder, and it was a blatant rip off of Butlins cabaret music (Butlins is a (holiday) hell camp for those of you who don't know). So many people were calling the show and saying that this young man was sure to be a hit when his single comes out...........

So, Mr.Musician. - How do you feel now? I have practiced (serious) music since I was 7 and I have sacrificed quality family/social time to master my instrument and try to earn a living in this unlikely biz. But there is - and probably never will be, a chance to get on the radio in England or the states.

The states MTV is black people doing that RnB stuff - so materialistc that it starts to sound like a shopping list. And white young men doing that fake punky/grungy thing. Is nobody real? VH1 has gone down the toilet as well.

On the other hand, in England (on MTV2 and Kerrang TV) I saw some interesting stuff that I had never heard of before - Rammstein and a couple of other bands. Very artistic videos and extremely...errr.......different lyrical themes. (Check Rammsteins' "Zwitter" - if they sang in English, I doubt they would ever get on TV again)

......and let's not forget that new George Michael video! Deserves 24 hour rotation. Genre bending?

Good to have choices.

Oil.

hahahahahahahahahahahaha:D I agree with you about the shallowness of R-n-B. They never talk about anything except worldly things like money, fancy cars - hooptys and females- a.k.a. ho's.
