Just a few basic questions about IEM

Hi,

I've had an entry level wired stereo system for 2 years and I wonder whether I should invest in something better to improve my comfort on stage. I have a Samson S Monitor headphone amp (http://www.samsontech.com/samson/pro...mini/smonitor/) and Shure SCL2 earplugs (http://voicecouncil.com/review-shure...ing-earphones/).

I'm a guitarist and a singer and with my current setup I have problems isolating (and therefore controlling) my voice in the mix.  Not because of volume but because of the quality of the sound.  The sound lacks definition, there's a bit too much medium and not enough bass and treble.

There's also a sort of bass resonance in my head, I think it's called the occlusion effect.  I tried custom earphones made for me but that problem gets worse and the best I could find are Comply foam units I insert on my current entry level Shure earphones.

Here are my questions:

- Do 2-way earplugs sound really better than 1 way?

- Should I buy a better wired or wireless headphone amp?

- What complete system (transmitter + receiver + earphones) is on the market with a good value and a priced below $1200?  Or should I buy each unit separately?  Or should I keep my current system and start by buying dual driver earphones because that's what improves the sound the most?

Thank you for your time.

Cheers

Start cheap, with some decent buds. Some people don't like IEMs or can't ever get used to them. I wouldn't drop a lot of cash until you know that's the route you want to go.

Edit-I guess you've already been using them...should prob read the entire post first, lol. Get some decent buds, and if you're stationary on stage, go wired...if not, wireless is the route. And yes, dual driver buds sound better, IMO. Sure makes an entry level wireless setup, PSM200...costs about $600. Only problem is although its 2 channels, you can't run it in stereo.
