Green wing is one of the strangest series I've seen... some people just don't understand it.. some people like myself really love it... the best character for me is Alan Statham the creepy GP.

Also the scottish woman is hilarious in it...

Like I say, an acquired taste and its not as popular in the UK as it should be.

Another great show is Peep Show which I think is the best program to come out of the UK. Also check out Spaced which also includes Mark Heap (Alan Statham) and Simon Pegg.

It is silly, I can't quite believe what trash they show on British telly under the name of comedy.

All imo of course but the British tv stations just seem to throw money at these below par comedians who seem to be know what funny is, but unfortunately aren't funny themselves.

Now, if you were to type in Alan Partridge into youtube, then you would find some proper British comedy :thu:

Yep I can undersatnd that... Coogan has mass appeal. The episode with the crazy fan was one of the funniest moments in the history of comedy, period.

But then again there are some UK programs like Max and Paddy that just seem like throwbacks to another age...

Phoenix Nights was top though... :D

UK comedy is an acquired taste in itself. I've never found things like Will and Grace, Friends etc funny at all. There seems to be a gag per minute ratio rhythm on those shows which I find mind numbingly unnatural.... Seinfeld was great though... probably the best US comedy of all time.

I dunno, I rate Friends at times, although it does get cheesy. Will and Grace I've never watched more than a couple of minutes without turning off and Seinfeld I never got into, maybe I didn't like the general tone or didn't give it a fair chance.

I think part of the problem with British comedy atm is the influence of Coogan, Gervais and Kay, we need comedians to be original not just crap imitations of those guys.

I love British humor and think it's pretty clever but some of the big American films like Naked Gun and National Lampoons with Chevy Chase still have me in fits, there is something of a surreal element in some of those actors like Chase which is just superb.

Just did a search for Les Patterson on youtube but no dice, that guy makes me laugh just seeing him.

Pighood, try and find some Les Patterson if you can, that is some funny shizz.

I can hardly remember that, just did a little search and seem to remember it being ok.

A good UK black comedian who actually did some stuff on Lenny Henry's latest show is Gina Yashere.

I've been neglecting comedy of late, i'm gonna stream some comedy albums from Napster :D

Well, I consider shows like Peep Show and Spaced to be pushing the boundaries, it's subtle and sometimes a little otherworldly, but then thats the key I think... so many references and personal experiences.

A lot of the shows you mention are just slapstick aren't they? Nothing wrong with that but its like comparing (wait for the classic HC commonly used phrase...) APPLES and ORANGES!! (   )

Have to confess I don't really know of anyone copying Coogan Gervais and Kay per se...

I think people just have different tastes... some people find Absolutely Fabulous incredibly funny.... but to me it was like Terry and June...

Coupling was another great UK show...

I guess I catch random things here and there, Spaced I never watched at one point and then I watched a couple of series in one sitting (with alot of skunk :freak: ) and completely got into it. What I saw of peep show was good but didn't make me laugh out loud too much, I'd watch it when it was on though, twas f*cked up in a good way.

How do you like The Mighty Boosh? Thought alot of the stuff I saw on tv was brilliant but saw the live show in Wolves and it was a bit of a dissappointment, partly because I wasn't too well acquainted with some plots/characters and partly because the crowd were so easily pleased and seemed to gush at every slightly humorous thing. This seemed to make the two guys not bother to act too well.

Another one of my favourites was Monkey Dust, that was class, also Nathan Barley was good.

I'm making myself out to be a right tv addict here, add in the time I spend at the computer on forums and no wonder I'm not progressing at keyboards as much as I'd like
