Members T. Alan Smith
What models are currently offering the biggest bang for buck? Name 'em. I've done a search but with all that's available now, I'd like to narrow the playing field before hitting the road. I want active monitors. Mixing thru them will be secondary to working with them while writing/arranging doing sound design and such. Thanks all!
Members EricF
What's your budget? The KRK Rockit5's ($300/pr) get a LOT of good reviews in the bang-for-your-buck category. I just bought a pair of Eden SM3's for $130. They're not spectacular, but a big improvement over the crappy computer speakers I was using. The important thing for me is that they are pretty small and actually fit in the space I have. You might want to check in with the folks in the recording forum, too. I searched the Recording Forum and did see the Rockit5's mentioned a lot....for better or worse. I'll pay as much as I have to...but I want to spend as little as possible and buy more fun stuff. What made you decide on the Edens? That's sounds similar to what I'm looking for. I too, am simply trying to stay out of the consumer speaker realm. Do the Edens have plenty of headroom. That's pretty important to me as well, now that I think about it. Thanks for the input!
Members Daft Punk
ADAM A9's seem to get pretty good reviews. one grand for a pair i believe. Otherwise, KRK should be a good choice. Yamaha also makes a set of actives that are supposedly pretty good, i've seen them at my music store but i've yet to try them out.
Members carbon111
+1 on the ADAM A7s - best bang for the buck out there IMHO. If you can spend a little more, the ADAM P11A or P22 monitors are even better...
Members Dave Bryce
ADAM A9's seem to get pretty good reviews. It's A7, not A9. dB ADAM Audio USA

The biggest 2 factors for my decision on the Edens were: 1) size, and 2) price. I would probably have bought the KRK Rockit 5's if I could physically fit them on the desk I'm using for my home studio. For half the price, however, the Edens were an easy call, even if they turn out to be less tan spectacular. As for performance, they're still too new to tell, and I don't have a ton of experience to have a baseline for comparison. Eden's rep with bass amps is pretty high, and I wouldn't expect them to supply junk in anything they put their name on.
Members Roald
IMHO you're better off with one of the larger Rockits. I'm also thinking about them Rockit 5s to replace my Behringer Truths but they are small and sound small. This was even true for my wet dream monitor brands, Genelec and ADAM. Ich compared the 8020 to the 8030...big difference, ADAM Artist to another one (forgot the name..S3?)...big difference. So size does matter (OK that was cheap... ) apparently. Tapco S8s weren't bad either. I particularly disliked the Alesis's and Samson Resolvs.
Members danchen
IMHO Adam A7 is far the best nearfield in his price range. The stereo image is fantastic, you can really hear the details in your music/sounds, it has a great definition of high and middle tones. I find it really amazing. Members T. Alan Smith
Thanks all! Last year, due to financial issues, I sold most of my studio gear. Before, I set myself up to produce up-n-coming solo artists. However, this time around, instead of 'trying to be totally pro', the direction I'm taking now is fun & inspirational. Hence, the Electribe thread. That said, I believe that your studio is only as good as your monitors.
