i want to buy a new keyboard and those are my options. What keyboard do you think is better?. i want one with good orchestral and electronic sounds, in nfact the most important thing to me is the sound quality (i have a korg n364 but I want something better). Also i would like to buy something with good expansion card future, a lot of options, and proffesional sound. Which one is the best option in your opinion?, any other suggestion?

Thanks for your help

Yamaha Motif XS7

thank you, i will look for information about that synth. What is the speciality of that synth?. What about the cost?. On the other hand, what do you think about those two options (fantom x7 and kurzweil k2661) talking about just sound quality, which one of those do you like more?

thank you again

This is a case where you have to listen to both and see which one sounds better to you, there isn't really any way to quantify which one is better. I think you might find the X7 is a bit more slick and contemporary sounding out of the box, and the optional SRX cards can add a lot, both in terms of sound quality and cost.

If you're considering a K2661 bear in mind that it is the identical synth engine to the older K2600 keyboards which are quite a bargain on ebay these days. You can pay a lot less and get 76 keys.

Neither of these keyboards have a "good expansion card future".

A Fantom X keyboard can hold 4 optional SRX cards which add new sounds. There are 12 of them, but Roland most likely will not produce any new ones.

The Kurzweil K2661 series can be expanded with two optional sound boards, but these are the only options.

Oh man I'd get the 2661 and never ever even think to look back.

But then I'm a tweakhead....

Word is that the signal path is cleaner and better on the 2661 compared to previous K-series models. Plus digital in/out. And lots of controllers. If you want a synth-action superior controller keyboard with fantastic DSP capabilities, the Kurz would be my choice. Not to say the Yammie isn't an excellent piece of gear. But you can keep going back to the 2661 and find new stuff to try, basically for most of eternity.

If you roll your own sounds, and look forward to working and polishing them the K2661. If you play stock sounds or just tweak stock sounds a bit ... the Fantom.

I prefer the Fantom orchestral roms on a CD. They blend nicely. But the Kurzweil roms sound good live. You'll need to play both I think.
