Members AveyTare
hello what about the MIDI implementation of MKS-80? is it ok or as bad as in DX7?
Members kpatz
MKS-80 is pretty capable midi-wise. It is fully editable via SysEx and velocity can be used to control filter cutoff and envelope rates as well as the usual volume.

Members TechEverlasting
Have you played with an MKS-80? I had one years ago with the programmer and sold it because its sound did nothing for me. I much prefer the cheaper MKS-70, which at least has some character. The important thing to know about the MKS 80 is that it is most certainly not a rack mounted Jupiter 8.
Members oldgearguy
hellowhat about the MIDI implementation of MKS-80? is it ok or as bad as in DX7? A few things to note -- sysex requires an intelligent 2-way communication, so you can't just use MIDI-Ox to dump sysex back and forth. You need sw that understands the MKS-80 protocol (it's a handshaking/ACK kind of thing they do). Also - the mapping of what can be controlled via MIDI CC is fairly limited compared to a lot of more modern gear (duh, but you still need to know). For example, they don't have the concept of mapping a MIDI CC onto filter resonance (for example). If you just care about simple note on/off, standard wheel modulation, sustain, pitchbend, and the like then it supports it. If you're looking at driving it from say, a Notron, Octopus, P3, etc then you may be disappointed with the level of control (not that it sounds bad, but the question was about MIDI).
