Hey all,

I am going to be purchasing a hammond XK1 so that I can start learning organ. I was wondering if any organ people out there can let me know what exactly the "V20R Expression Pedal" does? Is that the pedal that controls the leslie speed? volume? or what?

If not, what will I need as a pedal to control leslie speed and such?

Thanks in advance.. this forum rocks.

The V20R Expression pedal controls the overall volume. As volume is raised and lowered the high and low frequencies change less than the middle frequencies (this is similar to the way the loudness button button works on many stereo/Hi-Fi systems). The amount of change of both the high/low frequencies and overall volume is adjustable in the XK-1.

To control the Leslie speed (either the internal digital Leslie or a 2101/3300 via the 8 pin cable you can use any momentary footswitch. You can also set a menu parameter to have the mod wheel control the speed.

when i first got my xk2 i had a roland expression pedal setup (via the menu) to control the lesliue speed but its not a continuous speed that you can cock, its more off an on/off/(brake) thing just like the finger switch on top.

i much prefer just having the hammond volume pedal plugged in and using the button on the top to control the leslie speed. you may not realize it now but it is probable that you will feel the same. :thu:

DO NOT SET UP THE EXPRESSION PEDAL AS A SUSTAIN/DAMPER PEDAL. YOU WILL BE RIDICULED, MOCKED, AND CASTRATED PUBLICLY IF YOU DO.

The XK-1 has 2 1/4" jacks. One is for the expression pedal and the other is for a footswitch.

The original method of controlling a Leslie was via a half moon switch mounted on the left side of the lower manual. You can see it here:

It is easy to reach.

A kick switch mounted on the left side of the expression pedal has become popular in recent years. You can see it here:

http://www.hammondorganco.com/optional_acc2.htm#V20R

The mod wheel can be set to control Leslie speed as well. I believe this feature controls the leslie like a gas pedal with continuously variable speed not just fast/slow/stopped.

Hammond sells a momentary footswitch but any standard footswitch will work.

Hey guys

I Got my xk1 from zzounds as a "warehouse resealed". today I was trying to figure put the controls/menus and came accross an issue. When I choose the menu button it will bring up the menu but it will not let me choose any of the options. I can press the 1-4 buttons but none of them bring up another screen.

I think I may have a defective unit but I wanted to check on here to maybe see if I was doing something wrong? I have tried resetting the factory defaults but that proved no change.

If anyone has this instrument can they please shed some light on this? I may have to send it back and get another unit.

Thanks a lot

i have an xk2 and may be able to help you but i have zero experience with the xk1. :(

mine has an edit button, you mash it and it says "EDIT: select parameter" then you mash a button 4-8 that has the parameter sections above it but are normally "preset" buttons...you know, where the preset are stored :thu:

maybe this helps.

When you press menu you should see the "A" page. the 7 & 8 (Page) buttons scroll up and down through pages A - E. The 1 - 4 buttons should select the corresponding #/Function on the display. After a Function is selected the 1 & 2 (Parameter) buttons move the cursor left and right to the various parameters available for that function. A > on the right side of the display indicates more parameters are available by pressing the #2 button to go to the next horizontal page. After selecting the Parameter to be changed either the 3 & 4 (Value) buttons or the Value knob will change the set value for that parameter. After all the parameters are set the current setup must be saved to a preset or they will be lost - except for when the Adjust Preset button is the active preset.

If the 1 - 4 buttons are not selecting a Function on a page and bringing up the parameters for that Function, something isn't right.

Good Luck.
