Members afmunderback
Ive been asking a lot lately because I'm really trying to get going with my group because ive set a goal for us to have a demo recorded by spring, so im really cracking down, if your sondering why all the questions from me. Anyway, my good (wealthy) friend has been nice enough to give my group $500 to put toward a PA system... I really would not like to go much over the 500,, so i have selected the following items: Mics/stands: http://pro-audio.musiciansfriend.com/product/Audio-Technica-M4000S-3Pack-Mic-and-Stand-Kit?sku=483254 Mixer: http://pro-audio.musiciansfriend.com/product/Behringer-EURORACK-UB1202-Mixer?sku=631236 Speakers: http://pro-audio.musiciansfriend.com/product/Kustom-KPC12P-Powered-Speaker-Pair?sku=486178 Will this get the job done? Is there anything missing from this system? We will be using this for vocals/keyboards in a rock band situation. 2 keyboard rig, three vocalists (me, bassist, guitarist). Im going to want it to work for practice and maybe a small gig or two. Will it be loud and clear enough? Any other suggestions for not much over the 500 mark? Thank you so much. Members Harmoney
You don't need a PA system for recording, and certainly that one would not be a good choice for recording. If you want to put out a good demo, go rent some time at a nice studio. For gigging, this PA would not be adequate either. Save your money and get a bigger mixer, some power amps, and much better mains and monitors. Seriously, dude.
Members Conbrio
Well, $500 is peanuts for a decent sound system, and 100 Watts is rather inadequate for playing live. That would only suit for rehearsals. Some bands are using this system (250 watts per channel), but it would require a much bigger budget.

For sure... the system you listed would make your band sound like crap.
Members afmunderback
Im well aware you dont need a pa system for recording, i shouldnt have worded it like that. I was just saying that because i was reffering to why i need to get stuff together with my band. And actually, i was thinking about using the mixer for recording... but anyway, your saying this system is crap? what would be your suggestion? I guess I could go MAYBE 700.... Members Conbrio
what would be your suggestion? I guess I could go MAYBE 700.... My suggestion pictured above (Yamaha StagePas 500) sells for $899 but you could likely find it on sale for less. You'd still need mics, cables, speaker stands, etc. Check your local music stores to see what you can find used. Bands are always trading up so you might easily find a bargain--especially this time of year.
Members afmunderback
Thanks again for the help guys..... I actually recieved the 500 today (looked like a drug deal at school, lol) as far as buying used goes, I really hate to do that, because I like to have waraty in case something goes on me. Unless i could get something real good for real cheap, Id prefer buying new (and i checked craigslist; Nothing real good.) We had one gig so far and borrowed the other band that was there's PA. It was nice, JBL with a mackie mixer. As far as not having our own PA, we cant really do that, because A. We can never hear vocals OR keyboards when rehearsing and B. We pla on playing more like parties, local outdoor venues, etc, as aposed to like clubs or something like that.. we are an originals band, so its hard to get gigs at clubs before we get our music out there. And harmon, heck with THAT gear, me and my band will be your roaides for free, just let us use the gear after the show!!! (That Marshall stack in the back looks like something my lead guitar player would have a ball with, and i can only guess whats in those flight cases to the right... )
Members LePera
If you plan on playing outdoors you may need even more power than 500 total watts unless a small gathering and you don't need sound to carry very far.JD
