Members planetcaravan13
I have designed an overdrive pedal and I can't seem to find a linear wall wart with at least 500mA @24VDC regulated . I bought a switching supply and put a 1000uF cap on the output. It doesn't seem any noisier than my Boss SD-1 (Japan Model), which uses the unregulated 9V supply. What are your opinions on using the switching supply for my new design pedal.

Most problems occur in (1) high gain distortions that amplify the tiny bit of residual noise, (2) delay/chrous type pedals that have an internal clock pulse generator which "beats" against the switching noise of the power supply. Add a series resistor and a filter capacitor to your pedal design and it should be okay. http://www.muzique.com/lab/hum.htm regards, Jack
Members Ronsonic B
Why on earth do you need 500mA?!?! Unless that pedal is pushing 5 watts into a speaker that's just tremendous overkill. Not that there's anything wrong with that. No problem with the switcher if the output is clean and it isn't radiating any noise directly. Ron
