Members Verne Andru
I have a Palomino V8 and already did some mods [Supercharging a V8] that greatly improved it. I was looking at the schematic the other day and it struck me that they are only using one side of the preamp tube. From my reading it appears the signal goes into one side of the opamp, then to the other side of the opamp with a variable pot, then into the preamp tube meaning the first gain stage is SS. The that popped into my head was "would it not be possible to do a bit of rewiring and take advantage of both sides of the preamp tube?" I'm thinking maybe a switch to toggle between: opamp->opamp->tube and opamp->tube->tube or even use the other half of the preamp tube on the poweramp side of the FX loop to give that a bit of a boost. Anyone with any thoughts?
Members El-Lardo
Looks to me like both sides of the preamp tube are being used.
Members Verne Andru
I'm a bit rusty at this, so thanks for taking a second look. I just looked at it quickly and thought that was part of the power-tube but on a second look it appears they put 1/2 of the preamp tube after the FX return and before the EL84 on the power amp side. Curious design...
