Removing a humbucker cover

Howdy: I would like to know how to remove a humbucker cover without harming the pickup. This is a 57 Classic hummer. Also, how will removing the cover alter the characteristics of the pickup? I need your expertise, please.

I seem to recall that it's better to carefully cut the solder beads with a Dremel than to risk damaging the coils with the heat from a soldering iron, but I'm no expert in this area.

It will remove some of the high end rolloff that the covers tend to impart, and you'll probably get a slightly more prominent attack, BUT PLEASE LET ME TRADE YOU IF IT'S A CHROME COVERED ONE!!!

I have a gold '57 Classic and I would rather swap it for a chrome covered model to install in the neck of my Les Paul than sell it or remove the cover... let me know if that's what you have?

sadly, the reason I was thinking of removing the cover is because of it's goldness. Not my favorite hardware color either. but if it's going to cause the pup to be treblier and have a sharper attack, I guess I'll just leave it on. ugh.
