LP JR. neck repair help

Hey there, this is my first post here and am in need of help repairing a guitar that I just picked up for cheap. The neck is cracked near the headstock and I am wanting to fix it myself. I have all of the neccesary tools and clamps but was wondering what the best way to repair it would be. Ive been researching and I have seen many different methods including just spreading the crack and gluing with titebond or titebond 2, Ive also heard about throwing in some dowels for extra support. Any ideas would help as i am new at this! thanks all!
