Members rjs6700
FOUND THE MISSING WIRE First build so be gentle. Pedal works great sounds good, but the LED doesn't work. Any ideas where I went wrong. If its in backward would it not work to be on when the pedal is off?
Members Gromit
The chances are that the LED is in backwards.
Members amp_surgeon
If its in backward would it not work to be on when the pedal is off? No. Voltage to the LED is on when the effect is on, and off when the effect is off. The voltage isn't reversed when the effect is off. An LED is just like any other diode. Current can only flow through it in one direction. In most pedals the LED is wired in series with a resistor, and the anode end is tied to +9V, while the cathode end is tied to ground. One end or the other is routed through the switch so that the switch will break the circuit path when the effect is turned off. If the LED is backward then it won't light at all. If you look carefully at the skirt (the lip at the bottom of the LED) you should see one side of it is flat. That's the cathode end. It should be lined up with the flat spot on the PC silkscreen outline.
