Every official Tama thing I've seen says mahogany and basswood. I have Rockstar Custom, so I wish it was beech, but alas...
Members woody431
Musician's Friend {censored}ing sucks. No one should listen to anything they say. They advertise so many good deals, then when you call to order them, they aren't in stock and they are on backorder for 6months.
Members doublebass doug
The older starclassic performers were made of birch and basswood. Maybe m.s. friend still has alot of old ones in stock and are not listing the 100% birch to avoid a lawsuit.

To me that just sounds like they're selling alot of kits and have a hard time keeping them stocked. They can't keep too much in stock at one time, not only is that alot of money up front, if they don't sell then they are in a real tough spot. I've never had any probs with M.F. The reps have always treated me nice and the prices are fair + the shipping is fast.
