Members benleb
I know, another question about tuning... I would like to know how do you tune your toms? Both heads with the same at the same pitch? Resonant head higher than the batter head? Etc.? Personally, I'm playing around and experimenting a lot. Since I own a new kit, I'm trying to find the sound I like. No problem with my 12 and 14 toms but I'm having some difficulty getting the right sound out of my 16 (floor with ITS). I'd like to have the same
Members slambang
try tuning the top and bottom head to the same pitch. Have you found each drum's fundamental pitch yet? Tuning to the fundamental is something John Good from DW developed - by tuning to or having the heads at least related to the fundamental, the whole drum resonates at it's optimum. DW kits have their fundamental pitch stamped right on the inside of the shell. If you want help with the process, let me know. good luck.
Members benleb
Hey slambang! What is the procedure of tuning to the drum's fundamental pitch? Do you know where can I find some documentation about it? Thanks.

Start with the drum tuned real low(lower thanyou want) and make sure you have something against the resonant head so it won't interfere.Make sure the head is in tune with itself (samepitch at each tension rod). Slowly increase thetension on the rods one at a time. At some pointyou will hear the whole drum resonate louder thanit was before, this is the drum's fundamental pitch or an harmonic of it. Tune each rod to thedrums's fundamental pitch. Tune the bottom headto the same pitch for maximum resonance or higher or lower depending on what sound you'relooking for. Note: easier said than done! Just like anything with drums: practice, practice, practice!
