Help needed on hat sounds

Ok for those that have a file sharing program like Kazaa or Morpheus

can you look for a band called Arcturus and then download a song called Kinetic

When you listen to it in the beggining, can you tell me what the drummer does in the beggining with his hi hats?

I'm pretty sure hes doing off beats hi hat patterns in the beggining but I'm not questioning this.

My question is what is he doing with th ehats in the beggining? Like is he playing them open/closed first with his stick and then close the hats with the pedal only to create that kind of techno hat sound, with his hats only partially open?

Or does he leave them open/closed like the same as above which is only partially open(to where it looks like the hats touch, but not where the hats are completley rested when they are rescrewed or very open like where the hi hat top and bottom are visibly open and sound very clanky) and the hats normally sound like that without closing the pedal partially or all the way.

Or is he doing something else or can yall not tell because maybe of studio modification?

Can studios make cymbals and hat playing sound like something completely differnt than you think the teqnique they are using? I dont know alot about studio stuff.
