Members Buttcheex8
Hey, I'm asking such a dumb question because im a guitar guy But sometimes i get into arguments about who's good and whos not. Like my friend saying the drummer from "NOFX" is god and that hes better than Danny Carey from Tool. Well, I'd like to ask the drummers. Who are the best, most respected, both technically and melodically proficient drummers? From a guitarists point of view, my favorites are portnoy peart and danny carey. Members D.A.C.
The best drummers are the ones you can learn something from by listening to them, regardless of musical genre. Assuming one can keep their ego in check long enough to admit they could learn something.

A decent drummer would only give their favourite drummers because there's no number 1. You can say who's most famous by a poll etc. But that doesn't reflect the BEST drummer. Example: In some magazines Lars Ulrich was chosen as best rock/metal drummer by a poll. Why do a lot of people chose him? Because he's in their favourite band!!! Technically he's just an intermediate drummer. Another example: Drummers that are very very creative and know exaclty what drumpatterns fit the music can be technically just intermediate or less. Drummers who are technically very advanced can have a big ego and very low creativity. There are to much aspects in drumming for giving ONE BEST DRUMMER. Members jaged05
There are a lot of good drummers around. I like Steve Gadd, Zoro, Billy Ward, Dennis Chambers, and of course Buddy Rich. I like them because they are all incredibly creative at what they do, and I like to watch/listen and learn from them, not because they play in my favorite band. Members Boone 5
I'm not really schooled in old school drummers such as names you all have thrown out (Buddy Rich, Steve Glad, etc.) but the ones I like or think are good at what they do are: Jose' from Incubus: Nasty Groove, listen to "Are You In" from Mouring view. Beauford Carter: Just plain sick. The new DMB album is not his best stuff but all of DMB's upbeat or louder, jazzier songs if that makes any sence, he plays awsome on. Chad Sexton The new 311 album "From Chaos" wasn't great drumming wise, it was good, solid, and all that but he's done better. Early 311 "311", and "Transistor Radio" are awsome. Dave Weckle Bought one of his viedos, man he has no limits. since I threw out the ones I like I want to throw one out i hate, has anyone heard the Jack Johnson album. I don't know who drummed on that CD but my god I hate that snare drum sound. If you heard any of his songs you know what I'm talking about. Also, the drumming is very, very repetitive. I dont hate him really just his sound, man it kills me.
Members psycht
Its Carter Beauford (not the opposite ) anywho... most drummers will tell you who the best is in based on the style they play. If you really want an idea of who is the best then try to find open-minded drummers who can appericate good drumming regardless of the music. I'm not into NOFX, but from what i've heard, they have a talented drummer. I believe Carter is one of the best technically proficient as well as having good musical expression in his playing. Neil Pert and portnoy are also extremely talented. The list goes on and on.. but typically you'll see the same 5-6 names in most people's top list of drummers. Members elevate
Early 311 "311", and "Transistor Radio" are awsome It's Transistor, and those two wouldn't qualify as "early" 311. Try Music and Grassroots. FWIW, I prefer Danny's drumming to Erik's, though NOFX's music doesn't really cater to exploratory musicianship.
Members Destructobot
I think billy martin is the most incredible drummer ever. Anybody ever listen to MMW's album "tonic"? Damnnnn
Members Boone 5
Yeah my bad on the 311, thier two middle albums were the best of the bunch. The soundsystem one used to much electronics for me, but chad sexton uses alot of effects on his drums. He uses alot on his snare drum like an echo effect. Members woody431
If anyone really knew...there is no best drummer. It's all based on opinion. Some people think Travis Barker is god because he has chops. Some people like Terry Bozzio because he is an ostinato king. Some people like Dennis Chambers cause he can groove. Well my favorite drummers are basically Bozzio, Chambers, Jordison, Chris Pennie, and maybe a few others. So basically there really isn't any best drummer. Just like their is no worst drummer. Or worse, or whatever

I agree with the "Jack Johnson's drummer" also, don't know who he is, but that guy {censored}ing milks that kit for every little nuance it can give...
