Members tenner
My snare stand, a worthless TRAX piece of equipment, was sort of leaning my snare towards me, and I always keep it straightly flat, so I tried to adjust it and WHAM the metal snapped anywho.. I've never bought a snare stand before (except when buying my first kit, TRAX), how much should I be paying, and do you have any recommendations? I think I've heard/seen some sort of "free floating" system that allows the snare to resonate freely without being held too much.. but then again I've seen snares named free floating themselves.. could you explain this for me as well? Members Fafnir777
I say forget the free floating snare stand, becaus most of the time the snare drum resonates TOO much for most drummers (that's why they try to "dampen" them down...so that they don't ring as much. Just get a Tama or Pearl...look to spend about $65 or so, and you'll probably have the thing the rest of your life! Hahaha Gibraltar's are good, and DW's are really good (they bought Pearl's old design) but you wind up paying too much for the DW. I use 2 Pearl snare stands (the top of the line model) to hold my snare and my 15" Mounted tom...I think I gave about about $75 for each of them-but this model has come down in price at least $10 or more since then (They made a new "improved" version of it, and just relegated this stand to a "medium" level.) Members stapes2260
any intermediate to top of the line snare stand will do fine. I'd get one off ebay. PearlMapexTamaDW PremierYamaha They'll all work well. I'm not a fan of gibraltar hardware really. At least not the stuff with a lot of moving parts. Members Chabo
Same here. Every piece of Gibraltar hardware that I've used has had some major flaw which really pissed me off and/or caused the thing to not function.

Members magooly
Maybe if it breaks again, you could hire a midget to hold it for you, I had a midget awhile back, but he joined a union.
