Members Gryphon8199
Hey fellas, I'm new to the percussion game. I am interested in buying an electronic drum kit that can hook up to the midi interface on my computer much like a sound canvas. Does such a thing exist? and if so, what are some I should go with? I was thinking Roland. I want a really good drum sound for pop music, as well as realistic sounding drums.
Members Kyrrinstoch
Most current model e-drum modules fully support MIDI controls. The only reason I can think of that you'd want to do what you described is to either trigger sounds from the module through a software on your PC, or to record the MIDI information from your playing for use to trigger something else. As for realistic sounds, you get what you pay for.Roland has some good sounds with the TD-8 and TD-10, but for truly realistic acoustic drum sounds, I wouldn't settle for anything but a ddrum4. Members c. jude
You can use most pads to trigger samples from a sampler or computer (without a full blown module) using just a pad to MIDI interface. If you go with a stock kit with a module, you can still have the option of layering in or using samples plus you have all the onboard sounds and features (the best of both worlds). Full length uncompressed samples can sound better than any module including Roland and Clavias best efforts, but it requires a little know-how, the right gear and computer, etc. The best modules are the better Roland and ddrum ones, but opinions (and your specifics) will differ on what is right for what application.
